Adam “Pearlman” Gadahn lived with ADL board member Grandpa when he converted to Islam

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

A revealing artcle appeared in the Orange County register yesterday regarding Adam “al-Qaida” Gadahn, the Orange County man who moved to Pakistan and is allegedly a radical terrorist and public relations spokesman for al-Qaida. There had been unconfirmed reports that 31 year old Gadahn had been arrested in Pakistan, but it turned out to be someone else, allegedly a man from Pennsylvania.

Many constitutionalists who have a researched and conspiratorial view of the world and of the events of September 11th in particular, are already well aware that the alleged terrorist from OC is the Jewish grandson of an ADL board member.

But the fact that the young man was allegedly converted and radicalized only after moving to his grandparents home and ‘discovering Islam on the internet’ might raise some eyebrows. Gadahn moved in with his grandparents in Santa Ana, CA in the mid 1990’s, converted to Islam in 1995 and travelled to Pakistan at least once before his grandfather died at the age of 90 in October 1998.

His grandfather, Dr. Carl Pearlman, was described as ‘completely secular’ but a very strong supporter of Israel. Dr. Pearlman was a respected urologist and had two children, Nancy and Phil, with his wife Agnes. Nancy has described the family as ‘agnostic’.

An OC Register profile of Gadahn from 2006 quotes a colleague of Dr. Pearlman as saying “In our conversations, he had a very strong feeling for Israel…He felt very sincerely and deeply that he wanted that country to survive and make peace with the Arab nations around it.” The article also reports that Gadahn went to Pakistan but “returned to the United States and was with the family when his grandfather died. Soon thereafter, he left for Pakistan. It’s believed he has never returned to America.”

Phil Pearlman,  Adam Gadahn’s father, was a hippy musician who converted to Christianity, changed his name to Gadahn, and raised his four children in a shack in Riverside County. Phil and his wife Jennifer homeschooled their four kids and survived by “selling goat meat to the halal butchers in Los Angeles.” Halal is defined aslawful or legal…a term designating any object or an action which is permissible to use or engage in, according to Islamic law. It is the opposite of haraam. The term is used to designate food seen as permissible according to Islamic law  (Sharia).

Phil Pearlman was also a musician who had a   psychedelic rock band “Beat of the Earth” (you can listen to their stuff on youtube). A review of their music can be found here. An interesting 1994 interview with Phil’s ex girlfriend and bandmate Karen Darby gives some unique insight  into Pearlman, who’s described as unique and “always a contrarian”. According to Darby, Phil visited her in 1994:

“It seems he had married a wonderful woman who was totally supportive and involved in his choice of lifestyle. They had several children who were being raised on a farm/ranch east of San Diego, California. The Ranch had NO electricity, they also used a well for water. He was raising goats, which according to him he slaughtered personally and humanely whenever preparing them for market. He described to me what he thought was the most inhumane conditions in the local slaughter-house techniques. He had devised a quicker, bilateral knife to the carotids on a goat that was painless and “humane”. For some reason I had a hard time in visioning Phil killing anything”.

Darby also comments on how Pearlman/ Gadahn was “trying to limit the ways in which television might damage his children permanently!” She also touches on his political views: “He ranted a bit of his dislike of how the planet was being treated by industry. He had and voiced still a total disdain for “consumeristical society”. However, I felt that a part of him still operated to stay alive and thrive financially. ”

Adam Gadahn wrote for a ‘death metal’ online magazine called Xenocide. The publisher has posted archives of all 5 issues and includes a note about Gadahn last updated January 2009:

About Adam Gadahn – Yes, the Adam Gadahn that contributed to issue 5 is the same one that is currently wanted for questioning by the FBI, among a group of seven terror suspects announced in May 2004. I do not personally know him or where he is. Back in 1993, he emailed me reviews and we exchanged email and paper mail. This was before he converted to Islam and allegedly went sideways and became a jihadist. No, I don’t think it was the fault of heavy metal. Anyway, his reviews are in issue 5, so you decide.”

The relevance of the Adam Gadahn’s family background needs to be explained and conveyed by those who repeatedly point out that this alleged Muslim terrorist is the grandson of an ADL board member. To the average American, this fact alone will not mean much if they aren’t presented with reason why this fact is pertinent. Are they contending that Gadahn is not really a Muslim, or a terrorist, and that his grandfather’s connection with the ADL and other Jewish groups has something to do with his actions?

The ADL is a tireless advocate of hate crime  and hate speech laws and regularly publishes reports deriding 9/11 truth, such as ‘Anti-Semitic 9/11 Conspiracy Theories Abound on Social Networking Sites‘ and‘Conspiracy Theories About Jews and 9/11 Cause Dangerous Mutationsin Global Anti-Semitism’.

In one video, Gadahn says the followers of Osama bin Laden “love nothing better than the heat of battle, the echo of explosions and slitting the throats of the infidels.”

I do not know the answers to these questions or the real truth about Adam Gadahn or his background. But I know as an American and a discerning Catholic that the entire 9/11 story is a fraud and monumental hoax on the American people to justify wars for empire and the American police state. Therefore, little to nothing that the government and estabishment press tells us about 9/11 and terrorism in general should be considered reliable at face value.

Why Are They at War With Us?

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

January 12, 2010 “Information Clearing House” — “We are at war. We are at war against al Qaeda, a far-reaching network of violence and hatred that attacked us on 9/11, that killed nearly 3,000 innocent people and that is plotting to strike us again.”

Thus did Barack Obama clear the air as to whether we are at war, and with whom and why.

Following his remarks, during a White House briefing by National Security Council aide John Brennan,Helen Thomas asked a follow-up question to which we almost never hear an answer:

Why is al Qaeda at war with us? What is its motivation?

It was Osama bin Laden himself, in his declaration of war in 1998, published in London, who gave al Qaeda’s reasons for war:

First, the U.S. military presence on the sacred soil of Saudi Arabia. Second, U.S. sanctions causing terrible suffering among the Iraqi people. Third, U.S. support for Israel’s dispossession of the Palestinians. “All these crimes and sins committed by the Americans are a clear declaration of war on God, his Messenger and Muslims,” said Osama.

He began his fatwa quoting the Koran: “But when the forbidden months are past, then fight and slay the pagans wherever ye find them, seize them, beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them in every stratagem of war.”

To Osama, we started the war. Muslims, the ulema, must fight because America, with her “brutal crusade occupation of the (Arabian) Peninsula” and support for “the Jews’ petty state” and “occupation of Jerusalem and murder of Muslims there” was waging war upon the Islamic world.

Terrorism, the direct killing of civilians for political ends, is al Qaeda’s unconventional tactic, but its war aims are quite conventional.

Al Qaeda is fighting a religious war against apostates and pagans in their midst, a civil war against collaborators of the Crusaders and an anti-colonial war to drive us out of the Dar al-Islam. On Sept. 11, they were over here — because we are over there.

Nothing justifies the massacre of Sept. 11. But these are the political goals behind the 9/11 attack, and this is why Islamists fare well in elections in the Middle East. Tens of millions of Muslims, who may despise terrorism, identify with the causes for which Osama declared war — liberation of Muslim peoples from pro-American autocrats and Israeli occupiers.

Americans are being killed for the reasons Osama said we should be killed — not because of who we are, but because of where we are and what we do.

Consider. America lost 4,000 soldiers in six years in Iraq, with 30,000 wounded. Yet not one American of the 125,000 soldiers in Iraq was killed in December. Why not? Because we no longer conduct raids, patrol streets, kick down doors and pat down suspects. We have ended our combat operations, withdrawn to desert bases and seem anxious to go home. When we stopped fighting and killing them, they stopped fighting and killing us.

Most Americans today appear content to let Shia and Sunni, Arab and Kurd decide the future of Iraq. And if they cannot settle their quarrels without a civil-sectarian war, why should their war be our war?

According to Gen. Barry McCaffrey, we must now prepare for 300 to 500 dead and wounded every month in Afghanistan by summer.

Why are the Taliban killing our soldiers? Because we threw them out of power, took over their country and imposed the Hamid Karzai regime, and our troops, some 100,000 by fall, are the force preventing them from recapturing their country. We will bleed in Afghanistan as long as we are in Afghanistan.

But if, as Obama said, “we are at war with al Qaeda,” why are we fighting Taliban when al Qaeda is in Pakistan, Yemen, Somalia and North Africa?

Hamas has used terrorism, but not against us. Hezbollah has used terrorism, but not against us since the bombing of the Marine barracks, a quarter-century ago. And our Marines were attacked in Lebanon because we were in Lebanon, intervening in their civil-sectarian war. Had the Marines not been sent into the midst of that war, they would not have been targeted.

When Ronald Reagan withdrew them, the attacks stopped.

Like Europe’s Thirty Years’ War — among Germans, French, Czechs, Dutch, Danes, Swedes, Scots and English, Catholics and Protestants, kings, princes and emperors — the Muslim world is roiled by conflicts between pro-Western autocrats and Islamic militants, Sunni and Shia, modernists and obscurantists, nationalities, tribes and clans. The outcome of these wars, the future of their lands — is that not their business, and not ours?

The Muslims stayed out of our Thirty Years’ War. Perhaps we would do well to get out of theirs. But as long as we take sides in their wars, those we fight and kill over there will come to kill us over here.

This is payback for our intervention. This is the price of empire. This is the cost of the long war.

Suicide Bomber Who Allegedly Killed 8 CIA Agents Photo Released.

Thursday, January 7th, 2010

ABC News has obtained an exclusive photo of suicide bomber Humam Muhammed al-Balawi, the Jordanian double agent who killed seven CIA operatives and his Jordanian handler in Afghanistan on December 30.

Photo: Humam Khalil Muhammed al Balawi

An exclusive photo obtained by ABC News shows Humam Khalil Muhammed al Balawi, identified as suicide bomber who killed seven C.I.A. agents and his handler at Forward Operating Base Chapman near Khost city, Afghanistan, on Dec. 30, 2009.

(ABC News)

Al-Balawi, a 32-year-old Jordanian doctor, had convinced the Americans that his jihadist postings on the web were only part of his cover identity. He lured 13 CIA operatives and his handler to a meeting at Camp Chapman, an American forward operating base in Afghanistan, by saying he had just met with al Qaeda number two Ayman al-Zawahiri and had information to share.

The photo comes from a Jordanian identification card, seen below. Al Balawi was born in Kuwait in 1977, raised in Jordan and attended medical school in Turkey. He had been arrested by Jordan’s intelligence agency, the General Intelligence Directorate, more than a year ago. Believing they had flipped al Balawi and made him a double agent, the Jordanians released him from prison and sent him to Afghanistan to penetrate al Qaeda by pretending to be an aspiring foreign jihadi.

JORDANIAN ID

In his early life al-Balawi lived in a refugee camp near Zarqa, Jordan, the same town that spawned infamous insurgent leader Abu Musab al Zarqawi. Al-Balawi studied medicine in Turkey at the expense of the Jordanian government and was a straight-A student, sources said.

Al-Balawi, who worked at a clinic in a Palestinian refugee camp near Zarqa, was extremely active online and in jihadist chat rooms and was arrested several times by the Jordanian authorities.

The Jordanian intelligence officer who handled al-Balawi, Sharif Ali bin Zeid, was a member of the royal family. He was buried with a royal funeral that was attended by the king and queen of Jordan.

While the U.S. and Jordan mourned their deaths, a Web site from al-Balawi’s tribe described him today as a hero and said it was the most devastating attack against the CIA in the last 30 years.

Why Did We Lose Our Rights if the Government Isn’t Even Keeping Us Safe?

Saturday, January 2nd, 2010

Forget that the government’s spying on Americans began before 9/11 (confirmedhere and here).

Forget that the draconian Patriot Act was written before 9/11.

Forget that the Bush administration used its heightened powers granted under the state of emergency declared in 2001 (and continuing to the present day) to harass those who disagreed with its policies. See thisthis and this.

Errington Thompson says:

About two years, ago, I asked Richard Clarke if the CIA is working with the FBI in close harmony. His answer was “not really.”

The New York Times writes:

In some ways, the portrait bears a striking resemblance to the failures before the Sept. 11 attacks, despite the billions of dollars spent over the last eight years to improve the intelligence flow and secret communications across the United States’ national security apparatus.

And Politico notes:

President Barack Obama’s announcement that intelligence agencies had information that could have headed off the attempted airplane bombing on Christmas Day but failed to share it has left many of those who have urged a dramatic overhaul of the intelligence community exasperated.

“It’s discouragingly familiar,” said Tom Kean, a former Republican governor of New Jersey who co-chaired the 9/11 Commission. “It’s exactly the language we heard when we were making recommendations for the 9/11 report. That was five years ago. We made our recommendations based on the fact that agencies didn’t share information, and it seems to be the case that, once again, they didn’t share information. It’s very discouraging.”

“We thought that had been remedied,” the ranking member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, Kit Bond (R-Mo.), told POLITICO. “If they’re not talking with each other, that’s a problem that we’ve been tearing our hair out over for a long time, demanding that they talk to each other. … I’m very upset.”

Indeed, while the 9-11 Commission made numerous recommendations on how to prevent future terrorist attacks — many of them simple and inexpensive to implement — the Bush administration failed to do so (and see this and this). Moreover, the Bush administration and its allies actively blocked efforts to do so.

The Department of Homeland Security, instead of protecting vulnerable targets and concentrating on keeping actual bad guys out of our country, instead randomly made up lists which included kangaroo centers, petting zoos and ice cream parlorsas high-priority terrorist threats. And the Bush administration refused to fill important positions at DHS so that our security could be protected.

In areas such as airport security, things haven’t improved since Obama has taken office.

Ben Franklin said:

Those who would trade safety for freedom deserve neither.

As shown above, the government has not really done much to increase our safety. And see this.

But we have lost our freedom.

Yes, Yemen Has Oil

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

Yes, Yemen has oil.

The Middle Eastern nation – in the south of the Arabian Peninsula, bordering the Arabian Sea, Gulf of Aden, and Red Sea – has been exporting a couple of billion dollars worth of crude oil per year.

But it’s oil supplies are shrinking rapidly, and may be totally depleted within 10 years.

As the Yemen Observer notes:

Yemeni crude oil exports decreased to $1.5 billion during the fiscal period from January –October of 2009, compared with $4.2 billion during the same period of 2008, a decrease of $2.7 billion, the Central Bank of Yemen reported.

And the World Tribune points out:

The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace said Yemen was rapidly losing its crude oil reserves.

In a report, Carnegie said Yemeni oil exports, a key source of foreign currency, declined from 450,000 barrels per day in 2003 to 280,000 in early 2009, Middle East Newsline reported.

“Barring any major new discoveries, energy experts generously estimate that Yemen’s oil exports will cease in 10 years,” the report, titled “Yemen: Avoiding a Downward Spiral,” said.

Senator Lieberman calls for ‘preemptive’ attack on Yemen

Monday, December 28th, 2009

liebermaniraq053007 Senator Lieberman calls for preemptive attack on YemenSpeaking on Fox News Sunday, Senator Joeseph Lieberman (I-CT), who leads the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, has a vision of “tomorrow’s war.”

“Somebody in our government said to me in Sana’a, the capital of Yemen, Iraq was yesterday’s war,” Lieberman explained. “Afghanistan is today’s war. If we don’t act preemptively, Yemen will be tomorrow’s war. That’s the danger we face.”

Senator Arlen Specter (D-PA), also appearing on the program, seemed to agree, calling an attack against Yemen “something we should consider.”

“Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan — the Army officer who killed 13 people in a shooting rampage at Fort Hood in November — was linked to Anwar al-Awlaki, a radical Muslim cleric now based in Yemen,” The Hill noted.

Unnamed administration officials told US media in the aftermath of the thwarted attack that their suspect had confessed to traveling to Yemen and receiving training by Al-Qaeda.

Lieberman’s saber rattling against Yemen is “likely to be echoed in the days ahead as a growing number of neoconservative and conservative foreign policy voices have used the attempted airline attack to call into question the tactics Obama has applied to curb terrorism,” Sam Stein added.

In a borderline-livid post, Firedoglake writer Spencer Ackerman assailed Lieberman’s hawkish stance. “Is it a mistake to respond to this with more than ridicule? Maybe, but if not: it’s a ludicrously blithe and cost-free assertion to say that we need to take preemptive action in Yemen. What the fuck does Joe Lieberman know about Yemen? What does anyone in the Washington policy community know about Yemen? Fucking nothing except that (a) there is an apparently growing al-Qaeda presence there; Abdulmutallab told investigators that he got hooked up with his botched explosive there; the USS Cole was bombed there; there’s an important port there; and… that’s it.”

“The good news is that while progressives basically need Joe Lieberman’s vote in the Senate to pass domestic legislation, thus giving him a ton of leverage over what happens, nobody needs to listen to him about Yemen,” blogger Matt Yglesias opined.
