Corporate entity becomes ‘candidate’, kicks off bid for Congress

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

When the Supreme Court decided the case Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, henceforth allowing corporate soft money to influence U.S. elections, Rep. Alan Grayson (D-FL) cynically opined that it would lead to the election of the “congressman from Wal-Mart.”

Turns out, he may be right.

Meet Murray Hill, Inc., the first corporation to run for Congress in the United States.

“Until now, corporations only influenced politics with high-paid lobbyists and backroom deals,” the company’s YouTube account declares. “But today, thanks to an enlightened supreme court, corporations now have all the rights the founding fathers meant for us. That’s why Murray Hill Incorporated is taking democracy’s next step– running for Congress.”

Murray Hill, Inc. even has a fan page on Facebook, and a campaign ad. Watch:

Hill says it plans to file as a Republican for the GOP primary in Maryland’s eighth congressional district, currently represented by Democrat Chris Van Hollen.

Van Hollen, along with Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY), introduced legislation in February they hope will help blunt the effect of the court’s decision by restoring some of the restrictions on corporate campaign spending. Hill reportedly has “no beef” with Van Hollen, though the position seems more part of the campaign’s schtick than anything.

The company, a self-titled “progressive” messaging firm, was launched in 2005 by one Eric Hensal, who used to work with Group360, an advocacy organization in Washington, D.C.

Hill said in a statement that its campaign would put people “second, or even third,” according to The Washington Post.

“It’s a new day,” Hill’s ad says. “Until now, corporations influenced politics with high paid lobbyists and backroom deals. However, as much as corporate interests gave to politicians, we could never be absolutely sure they would do our bidding. But today, thanks to an enlightened Supreme Court, corporations now have all the rights the founding fathers meant for us. It’s our democracy: we bought it, we paid for it and we’re going to keep it.”

Hill “wanted to run as a Republican because we feel the Republican Party is more receptive to our basic message that corporations are people, too,” campaign manager William Klein told the Post.

When the Supreme Court first decided Citizens United, 41 industry leaders signed a letter to Congress urging the end of what they called corporate “bribery.”

“Is there a difference between campaign contributions and bribery?” said Alan Hassenfeld, chairman of Hasbro, Inc, who co-signed the letter. “It is long past the time to stop requiring that our elected officials moonlight as telemarketers raising money for their re-election campaigns rather then devoting all their time to solving the problems before this nation.”

A blogger with watchdog group The Sunlight Foundation called the decision the “corporate globalization” of U.S. elections, cautioning that allowing corporate funds in elections would also make way for undue foreign influence on U.S. politics.

“It allows corporations to spend all the money they want to buy and sell elected officials through the campaign process,” Rep. Grayson said of the Citizens United case. “It allows them to reward political sellouts, and it allows them to punish elected officials who actually try to do what’s right for the people.”

The Post adds:

Whether or not a corporation ultimately replaces Van Hollen in Congress, Murray Hill’s interest has sparked other speculation among the political chattering class in Maryland.
Why not have an accounting firm run for comptroller, the state’s chief tax collector? Why not a law firm for attorney general? The winning firm could arrive in office with a full cadre of associates and save taxpayers money.
It remains to be seen whether the attention generated by Murray Hill’s bid will be good for its bottom line.

Police Seize ‘Sovereign Citizen’ License Plate

Sunday, March 14th, 2010

INDIANAPOLIS — Pendleton police have seized a license plate of a so-called “sovereign citizen,” a growing group of Indiana residents who claim to be outside the law.

Police said the plate was going to be placed on a vehicle by a self-proclaimed diplomat in lieu of a state-issued plate.Members of the sovereign citizen movement contend that they no longer have to pay taxes, claiming their homes as embassies and using identification cards that show them as diplomats, 6News’ Rafael Sanchezreported.

Video: Police Seize ‘Sovereign Citizen’
Pendleton Police Chief Marc Farrer called such proclamations both illegitimate and illegal, and said that anyone driving with such plates will be ticketed and have their vehicle towed. The plate was turned over to the FBI.The Secretary of State’s office said about 10 people every month ask to put a seal on a document so that they can claim freedom from taxes.Former federal prosecutor Larry Mackey, who helped to convict Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols in the bombing of the Oklahoma City federal building in 1995, said Nichols claimed he was a “sovereign citizen.”"He would carry out his beliefs by having a license plate that said UCC Chapter 9, and thereby think that he was exempt from licensing his vehicle. He would send mail with the U.S. flag stamp upside down to demonstrate his protest against tax laws,” Mackey said. “There are people who get engaged in this warfare against the federal government … that simply are not well-adjusted.”Despite Nichols’ association with the movement, not all sovereign citizens support domestic terrorism.

Those who Sanchez talked to

said they draw their beliefs from the Bible and U.S. Constitution. Many claim that the statements within the papers they provide are enforceable because of a state seal placed on the material, but state officials said that in reality, that seal is placed on any number of documents and doesn’t make what’s on the documents true.Indiana is not the only state seeing an uptick in sovereign citizens. In February, four men were convicted in Missouri for buying and selling fraudulent credentials related to the movement. In March 2009, federal authorities arrested four men in Las Vegas in a similar operation. Some people are paying between $900 and $2,100 to become members of a sovereign citizens group.”It is really, at the bottom, silliness. It’s people being unfortunately selfish to the point of putting themselves and families at risk,” Mackey said. “By declaring yourself a sovereign citizen, it does nothing but frankly get your name on a file with the (Internal Revenue Service).”Mackey currently practices law with the Indianapolis law firm of Barnes and Thornburg LLP.

The Obama administration has ended public input for a federal strategy that could prohibit U.S. citizens from fishing some of the nation’s oceans, coastal areas, Great Lakes, and even inland waters…

Friday, March 12th, 2010

This is a column from Robert Montgomery for ESPN Outdoors. As a Senior Writer for BASS Publications, Montgomery has written about conservation, environment, and access issues for more than two decades. It’s part of a series of articles from Montgomery on the issue. See a response from editor Steve Bowman regarding concerns with this column.

The Obama administration has ended public input for a federal strategy that could prohibit U.S. citizens from fishing some of the nation’s oceans, coastal areas, Great Lakes, and even inland waters.

Anglering for access united we fish rally capitol washington fishing
One sign at the United We Fish rally at the Capital summed up the feelings of recreational and commercial fishermen.

This announcement comes at the time when the situation supposedly still is “fluid” and the Interagency Ocean Policy Task Force still hasn’t issued its final report on zoning uses of these waters.

Fishing industry insiders, who have negotiated for months with officials at the Council on Environmental Quality and bureaucrats on the task force, had grown concerned that the public input would not be taken into account.

“When the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) completed their successful campaign to convince the Ontario government to end one of the best scientifically managed big-game hunts in North America (spring bear), the results of their agenda had severe economic impacts on small family businesses and the tourism economy of communities across northern and central Ontario,” said Phil Morlock, director of environmental affairs for Shimano.

“Now we see NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) and the administration planning the future of recreational fishing access in America based on a similar agenda of these same groups and other Big Green anti-use organizations, through an Executive Order by the President. The current U.S. direction with fishing is a direct parallel to what happened in Canada with hunting: The negative economic impacts on hard-working American families and small businesses are being ignored.

“In spite of what we hear daily in the press about the President’s concern for jobs and the economy and contrary to what he stated in the June order creating this process, we have seen no evidence from NOAA or the task force that recreational fishing and related jobs are receiving any priority.”

Unless more anglers speak up to their Congressional representatives so their input will be considered, it appears the task force will issue a final report for “marine spatial planning” by late March. President Barack Obama then could possibly issue an Executive Order to implement its recommendations.

Led by NOAA’s Jane Lubchenco, the task force has shown no overt dislike of recreational angling. As ESPN previously reported, WWF, Greenpeace, Defenders of Wildlife, Pew Environment Group and others produced a document entitled “Transition Green” shortly after Obama was elected in 2008.

What has happened since suggests that the task force has been in lockstep with that position paper, according to Morlock.

In late summer, just after the administration created the task force, these groups produced “Recommendations for the Adoption and Implementation of an Oceans, Coasts, and Great Lakes National Policy.” This document makes repeated references to “overfishing,” but doesn’t reference recreational angling, its importance, and its benefits, both to participants and the resource.

Additionally, some of these same organizations have revealed their anti-fishing bias with their attempts to ban tackle containing lead in the United States and Canada.

Also, recreational angling and commercial fishing have been lumped together as harmful to the resource, despite protests by the angling industry.

Morlock’s evidence of collusion — the green groups began clamoring for an Executive Order to implement the task force’s recommendations even before the public comment period ended in February.

On Feb. 12, the New York Times reported on that “President Obama and his team are preparing an array of actions using his executive power to advance energy, environmental, fiscal and other domestic policy priorities.”

Teen Hauled to Jail For Overdue Library DVD

Friday, March 12th, 2010

What started as a routine traffic stop ended with a Colorado teen doing hard time. The offense? Not returning a “House of Flying Daggers” DVD to his local library. Come on, Colorado. You’re better than that.

Apparently young Aaron Henson, an impressionable lad all of 19 years old, fell in with the wrong DVD-borrowing crowd sometime last year. Henson packed up the flick for a move, forgot that he had it, and ended up with a warrant for his arrest:

The city said it sent an overdue notice and bill, neither of which were returned.

The city then sent a summons, which was returned.

Then, the city sent a new court date order, it was not returned. And when Aaron failed to appear for the second court date, the city issued a warrant.

Why all the fuss? Because apparently the municipality of Littleton, CO values the DVD of a 2004 release at $31.45, and any “theft” over $30 gets prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Also of note: Littleton, CO has apparently never heard of Amazon.

Anyhow, the whole mess get straightened out after Henson’s family forked over a $200 fine for the DVD, $200 to remove the car from the impound lot, and $60 in court fees. And while Littleton has acknowledged its mistake and the mayor swears it won’t happen again, the arrest is still on Aaron’s record.

Just so long as no one got hurt, I suppose, except for the integrity of our judicial system. [The Denver Channel via Consumerist]

DISNEY CHANNEL SHOW OPENLY PUSHING EUGENICS AND POPULATION REDUCTION

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

Special thanks to Jason E. for discovering this burb while watching Disney Channel with his kids!

If ever there was a good reason to throw that brainwashing, mind control piece of technology that we call Television out the window this must be it. And you thought it was safe to leave your children watching the Disney channel, while you’re busy doing other stuff, well think again. The same people that brought you Mickey Mouse, Goofy and oh yes, planting words like “sex” into The Lion King movie and priests having erections as he performs a marriage ceremony at the end of The Little Mermaid are up to their tricks again. This time instead of pushing a sexual theme they’re now getting much more sophisticated. Now they are pushing the wonderful values of John Maynard Keynes and Thomas Robert Malthus – i.e. Eugenics and Population Reduction using the Fabian technique. That’s right, Disney, the worlds largest media company and entertainment conglomerate thinks it’s about time our children moved up from sex lessons to an education in using slow kill tactics to get the population down to a more manageable level. Isn’t that nice. It really wouldn’t surprise me if they introduce new cuddly toy range that comes with it’s own vial of cyanide, after all we all have to be responsible for saving planet earth and the only decent thing to do is commit infanticide. Let’s not forget those beautiful and inspiring thoughts of Margaret Sanger, the founder of Planned Parenthood – “the most merciful thing that a large family does to one of its infant members is to kill it”. Such wonderful words, I’m sure had she been still alive she’d be very happy with Disney’s change in direction.

Also, you just have to keep an eye out for the emblem used by the Fabian Society.

Adam “Pearlman” Gadahn lived with ADL board member Grandpa when he converted to Islam

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

A revealing artcle appeared in the Orange County register yesterday regarding Adam “al-Qaida” Gadahn, the Orange County man who moved to Pakistan and is allegedly a radical terrorist and public relations spokesman for al-Qaida. There had been unconfirmed reports that 31 year old Gadahn had been arrested in Pakistan, but it turned out to be someone else, allegedly a man from Pennsylvania.

Many constitutionalists who have a researched and conspiratorial view of the world and of the events of September 11th in particular, are already well aware that the alleged terrorist from OC is the Jewish grandson of an ADL board member.

But the fact that the young man was allegedly converted and radicalized only after moving to his grandparents home and ‘discovering Islam on the internet’ might raise some eyebrows. Gadahn moved in with his grandparents in Santa Ana, CA in the mid 1990’s, converted to Islam in 1995 and travelled to Pakistan at least once before his grandfather died at the age of 90 in October 1998.

His grandfather, Dr. Carl Pearlman, was described as ‘completely secular’ but a very strong supporter of Israel. Dr. Pearlman was a respected urologist and had two children, Nancy and Phil, with his wife Agnes. Nancy has described the family as ‘agnostic’.

An OC Register profile of Gadahn from 2006 quotes a colleague of Dr. Pearlman as saying “In our conversations, he had a very strong feeling for Israel…He felt very sincerely and deeply that he wanted that country to survive and make peace with the Arab nations around it.” The article also reports that Gadahn went to Pakistan but “returned to the United States and was with the family when his grandfather died. Soon thereafter, he left for Pakistan. It’s believed he has never returned to America.”

Phil Pearlman,  Adam Gadahn’s father, was a hippy musician who converted to Christianity, changed his name to Gadahn, and raised his four children in a shack in Riverside County. Phil and his wife Jennifer homeschooled their four kids and survived by “selling goat meat to the halal butchers in Los Angeles.” Halal is defined aslawful or legal…a term designating any object or an action which is permissible to use or engage in, according to Islamic law. It is the opposite of haraam. The term is used to designate food seen as permissible according to Islamic law  (Sharia).

Phil Pearlman was also a musician who had a   psychedelic rock band “Beat of the Earth” (you can listen to their stuff on youtube). A review of their music can be found here. An interesting 1994 interview with Phil’s ex girlfriend and bandmate Karen Darby gives some unique insight  into Pearlman, who’s described as unique and “always a contrarian”. According to Darby, Phil visited her in 1994:

“It seems he had married a wonderful woman who was totally supportive and involved in his choice of lifestyle. They had several children who were being raised on a farm/ranch east of San Diego, California. The Ranch had NO electricity, they also used a well for water. He was raising goats, which according to him he slaughtered personally and humanely whenever preparing them for market. He described to me what he thought was the most inhumane conditions in the local slaughter-house techniques. He had devised a quicker, bilateral knife to the carotids on a goat that was painless and “humane”. For some reason I had a hard time in visioning Phil killing anything”.

Darby also comments on how Pearlman/ Gadahn was “trying to limit the ways in which television might damage his children permanently!” She also touches on his political views: “He ranted a bit of his dislike of how the planet was being treated by industry. He had and voiced still a total disdain for “consumeristical society”. However, I felt that a part of him still operated to stay alive and thrive financially. ”

Adam Gadahn wrote for a ‘death metal’ online magazine called Xenocide. The publisher has posted archives of all 5 issues and includes a note about Gadahn last updated January 2009:

About Adam Gadahn – Yes, the Adam Gadahn that contributed to issue 5 is the same one that is currently wanted for questioning by the FBI, among a group of seven terror suspects announced in May 2004. I do not personally know him or where he is. Back in 1993, he emailed me reviews and we exchanged email and paper mail. This was before he converted to Islam and allegedly went sideways and became a jihadist. No, I don’t think it was the fault of heavy metal. Anyway, his reviews are in issue 5, so you decide.”

The relevance of the Adam Gadahn’s family background needs to be explained and conveyed by those who repeatedly point out that this alleged Muslim terrorist is the grandson of an ADL board member. To the average American, this fact alone will not mean much if they aren’t presented with reason why this fact is pertinent. Are they contending that Gadahn is not really a Muslim, or a terrorist, and that his grandfather’s connection with the ADL and other Jewish groups has something to do with his actions?

The ADL is a tireless advocate of hate crime  and hate speech laws and regularly publishes reports deriding 9/11 truth, such as ‘Anti-Semitic 9/11 Conspiracy Theories Abound on Social Networking Sites‘ and‘Conspiracy Theories About Jews and 9/11 Cause Dangerous Mutationsin Global Anti-Semitism’.

In one video, Gadahn says the followers of Osama bin Laden “love nothing better than the heat of battle, the echo of explosions and slitting the throats of the infidels.”

I do not know the answers to these questions or the real truth about Adam Gadahn or his background. But I know as an American and a discerning Catholic that the entire 9/11 story is a fraud and monumental hoax on the American people to justify wars for empire and the American police state. Therefore, little to nothing that the government and estabishment press tells us about 9/11 and terrorism in general should be considered reliable at face value.

Schumer, Graham Use Immigration to Push National Biometric ID Card

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

Democrat Chuck Schumer and Republican Lindsey Graham have joined forces in an effort to force a biometric ID on the American people. The new national ID scheme is part of a comprehensive immigration bill now in the Senate.

Schumer and Graham want every American worker required to have a biometric ID card in order to work. “Under the potentially controversial plan still taking shape in the Senate, all legal U.S. workers, including citizens and immigrants, would be issued an ID card with embedded information, such as fingerprints, to tie the card to the worker,” reports The Wall Street Journal.

Schumer and Graham, who face an “uphill effort to pass a bill,” plan to meet with Obama this week in order to update him. An administration official told the Journal the White House has no position on the controversial ID card.

Previous efforts to force a national ID on the American people have ended in failure. Shortly after September 11, 2001, Congress took up the idea of requiring every citizen to have a national ID card. Before the election of 2004, the revisited the issue.

Section 403(c) of the Patroit Act specifically requires the federal government to “develop and certify a technology standard that can be used to verify the identity of persons” applying for or seeking entry into the United States on a U.S. visa “for the purposes of conducting background checks, confirming identity, and ensuring that a person has not received a visa under a different name.”

Prior to September 11, 2001, the government pushed for a national biometric identification system. Both the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Act of 1995 (PRWOA), a welfare reform law, and the Immigration Control and Financial Responsibility Act of 1996 (ICFRA), an immigration reform law, called for the use of “technology” for identification purposes.

In 2005, Congress passed the Emergency Supplemental Appropriations Act for Defense, the Global War on Terror, and Tsunami Relief, or REAL ID.

“States were originally given until May 2008 to comply with the law, but widespread resistance resulted in the Federal Government changing that deadline not once, not twice, but three times,” notes theTenth Amendment Center. “More than two dozen states have passed resolutions or binding laws opposing the act, rendering the Bush-era law nearly null and void in practice. Bottom line? Nullification works.”

Senator Graham does not believe his biometric national ID scheme will violate the privacy of Americans. “We’ve all got Social Security cards,” he said. “They’re just easily tampered with. Make them tamper-proof. That’s all I’m saying.”

Graham is the only Republican to publicly announce support for a law requiring Americans to hold a biometric national ID card and he wants at least one other GOP co-sponsor to launch the effort.

According to the Journal, biometric data for the card would likely be either fingerprints or a scan of the veins in the top of the hand. It would be required of all workers, including teenagers, with current workers needing to obtain the card only when they next change jobs. Employers would be required to purchase a scanner.

A biometric ID system is not about securing the border or preventing terrorism. It is about tracking citizens.

“By far the most significant negative aspect of biometric ID systems is their potential to locate and track people physically. While many surveillance systems seek to locate and track, biometric systems present the greatest danger precisely because they promise extremely high accuracy. Whether a specific biometric system actually poses a risk of such tracking depends on how it is designed,” explains theElectronic Frontier Foundation.

Earlier this month, a biometric ID card was introduced at a large technology show in Hanover, Germany. The card will mandatory for all Germans on November 1, 2010. “The card has three functions: 1. biometric identity verification, 2. electronic identity verification, 3. authenticated electronic signature,”Fox News reported on March 2.

Stand up for 33,000 Ground Zero responders who are sick, dying, or have already died since 9/11

Monday, March 8th, 2010

In a ground shattering instant, thousands of lives were lost. A community was transformed into an unfamiliar warzone full of people who were suddenly lost, fearful, and detached from the rest of the world. The way of life as they knew it was shattered; families lost loved ones and friends without a forewarning, a chance to escape or say their goodbyes. Despite massive rescue efforts the mass desperation seemed hopeless. Many of you reading this may assume that I am describing the events in Haiti, but the horrific scene I am depicting happened in our own country on September 11, 2001.

Of the 40,000 people who responded to Ground Zero after the attacks, 70 percent, or 33,000, are sick, dying, or have already died as a result of their service. More than one third of the uniformed and non-uniformed workers and volunteers who responded to the search and clean-up were from New Jersey. Few people in the tri-state area were not directly impacted in some way by theses terrorist attacks, but the rest of the country may only remember the catastrophic event and not realize that people are still suffering the aftermath today. Sadly, there is an epidemic going on in our own backyards and many Americans are not even fully aware that it is happening.

Most recently, the Obama Administration outraged Americans when they announced the President would not back the Congressional bill that would guarantee long-term funding for healthcare and research for Ground Zero workers. Because of the backlash from 9/11 first responders, residents and lawmakers, the Administration reversed course and announced that President Obama would double next year’s budget for treating the sick to $150 million.

In an effort to bring this vital issue to light, I have been working with the 9/11 survivor group, the Feal Good Foundation headed by first responder John Feal, which raises awareness of this issue, the services available to these individuals, and the need for insurance claims to be funded for those who are experiencing health related illnesses from the toxic air quality in the weeks following September 11th, 2001.

John Feal is leading the charge to see that House Resolution 847 be passed to provide financial resources for insurance claims submitted by first responders. On the state level, I sponsored bill, ACR-237, which was passed by the Assembly that urges Congress to pass this resolution to extend and improve protections and services to individuals directly impacted by September 11th.

It is estimated that more people will die from the aftermath of 9/11 than those who perished in the attacks. To date, over 800 first responders have died. In addition, a 2006 medical study of fire fighters reported that those personnel who inhaled Ground Zero air essentially lost 12 years of lung function. The World Trade Center Health registry has tracked the health of individuals seriously exposed to the twin towers attack, and of the more than 71,000 registrants, nearly 50,000 are residents of New York and New Jersey. It is clear that a permanent solution needs to be created to assist the 9/11 responders in need. Along with my colleague Assemblywoman Mary Pat Angelini, I have urged President Obama to dedicate permanent federal funding for the 9/11 first responders who are sick and dying as a result of their heroic actions following the terrorist attacks.

Communities across the nation came together and to date have raised nearly 4 million dollars to support the people suffering in Haiti. We are capable of achieving amazing feats when we come together as Americans and it is vital that we now exhibit the same kind of commitment to our hometown heroes who are the victims of the September 11th terrorist attacks.

I urge all concerned citizens to contact Congressman Frank Pallone, chairman of the House Health Subcommittee, as he has the power to bring the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act to a vote in his committee, which could then send it to the full House for consideration. The funds will support health care for the heroes who put their lives on the line to save others who are now experiencing the devastating aftermath of being exposed to Ground Zero. It is unjustifiable that they have had to fight so hard to receive funding for care and I encourage all residents to join me in standing up for the victims and heroes of 9/11 who deserve our support.
