Teen Tased And Run Over By Police Resutling In Death
PENSACOLA, Fla. – Renee Allen went to a neighborhood club looking for a little fun. Instead she says she saw a teenager killed right across the street.
Allen described what she saw early Saturday morning.
“The officer was turning, and the little boy was turning over the grass into the parking lot. At that time the officer stuck a laser out and stunned the little boy. The boy and the bike went over on it’s side. The little boy tried to get up. At that time the officer backed his car up and hit the boy,” Allen said.
Ashley Krey is the club owner. He said several of his patrons tell the same story. They all saw a police car chasing a teen on a bicycle just before 2 a.m. They say the teen fell from the bike after he was hit by the taser.
“The officer fired a taser at the bicyclist who ended up falling off his bike, and he looked like he was twitching, recovering from the taser,” Krey said.
The Florida Highway Patrol and the Department of Law Enforcement are investigating the incident.
In a written statement Pensacola Police Chief John Mathis said, “This is a tragic situation of everyone involved.”
Pensacola Police say the officer was on routine patrol near “T” and Cervantes street when he saw a suspicious male.
The report states when the officer tried to stop the male, the man fled on the bike. The officer followed in his car, and tried unsuccessfully to tase the man.
Police say the biker turned into a parking lot on “R” street, and then fell in front of the officers patrol car.
Witnesses said the biker was under the car for several hours.
Elvin McCorvey is president of the local NAACP Chapter. He says the organization is also looking into what happened.
“I wanted to see if there were any physical evidence that we could discover so when we get the report we will know whether or not it matches with what we discover here today,” McCorvey said.
Pensacola police have identified the officer involved in the incident.
He is 35-year-old Jerald Ard. Ard has been with the police department four years.
Police have not released the name of the person who was killed.
