Stopping 2700+ Drivers to Catch 17 is the Police State Hidden in DUI Check Points?

Colorado Springs police and the State Patrol have stepped up enforcement against drunken drivers during the holiday weekend.

Police say they cited 17 people for driving under the influence from Friday night into early Saturday. Police say the people cited were among the more than 2,780 drivers stopped at a checkpoint on South Powers Boulevard in Colorado Springs.

Police say the enforcement is warranted because the Fourth of July holiday is one of the deadliest when it comes to crashes caused by drunken drivers.

Police will continue the patrols targeting drunken drivers through the weekend.
