Big Bother is watching you in the streets of Pueblo
A warning for bad drivers in the steel city, some stop lights will soon be equipped with red-light cameras.
NEWSCHANNEL 13 wanted to know what drivers felt about the new additions.
“I think it’s a good idea, save a lot of lives,” said Lenora Hegler.
“I think it will make it a lot safer,” agreed Dwight Rose, another driver.
Some residents love the idea…others, not as much.
“I guess I’m kind of on the fence,” said Jason Crowe.
“I think we should concentrate on people who really are committing crimes,” said Lisa.
But like it or not, Pueblo will soon see it’s first wave of red-light cameras installed. The two chosen intersections are at Prairie Ave. and Thatcher Ave. and the Hwy 50 by-pass and Norwood Ave.
“As a father of two little girls I can see you know, slowing people down so they don’t run red lights and prevent people from getting really hurt,” said Crowe, a driver. “But on the other hand it is kind of a big brother and how far do we let them take it where they’re looking at us all the time?”
Construction on the cameras is just beginning and the equipment will have a 30-day testing period once it’s complete. During that time drivers will only receive a warning in the mail.
Crews will be working at the intersections from about 8:30am – 3:30pm for the next few weeks. Drivers should expect slight delays and lane shifts near the two lights.
